The overall strategy for the FUNCFOOD project is by using a decision-based tier approach. Thus, in the first step we investigate and thoroughly discuss a candidate list of 11 potential chemoprotective agents for which solid data concerning their protective effects in human is lacking, and therefore, will be under investigation in the present project. In a second step, we perform screening tests applying high throughput in vitro model systems to find the best candidates for further testing in more complex system, e.g., using animal models. Conclusions from the results in the animal studies will lead us to conclusions concerning which are the best candidates for further testing in the human intervention studies. Because of the strategy outlined above, it can not be stated in the individual work packages which of the chemoprotective substances that will be object for investigation.
